Keep your rec vehicles locked and secured

St. Ives - A pair of recreation vehicle thefts may be connected according to Chase RCMP.

The two thefts happened Sept. 3. The first happened in St. Ives with thieves entering an unlocked garage where they made off with an ATV and an offroad vehicle. The owner and neighbours say they didn't hear or see those responsible. Police are still waiting for details about make and model of the stolen property.

The second theft happened between 2-4 a.m. when a utility trailer was taken, also from a residence in St. Ives. It appears the padlock was removed and thieves drove away with the trailer. There were no witnesses and the lock wasn't recovered.

The RCMP wants to remind people to keep their property securely chained and to lock all moveable property to an immoveable object such as a concrete foundation or block. Absentee seasonal owners should install security bars over windows and doors of their houses or cottages, as well as monitored alarm and video systems during the off-season.

Anyone with information can contact the Chase detachment at 250-679-3221 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
