KAMLOOPS - A local woman is the recent winner of a million-dollar lottery ticket.
Sherry Edwards says she learned she had won the grand prize while sitting at home.
“I checked the numbers three times online before realizing I had won,” Edwards says in a release issued by BCLC.
Edwards won the guaranteed prize on Sept. 1 through a Lotto 6/49 draw. Edwards says in the release she called her son immediately to tell him the good news.
“He didn’t believe me until I sent the picture,” she says. “We are so excited.”
The Kamloops woman says she plans to take care of those she loves and spend time doing the things she has always wanted to do.
“I feel blessed and so incredibly grateful. I can set up an education fund for my grandchildren and I’ve always dreamed of adopting more dogs in need of a good home,” she says.
Edwards says she also plans to buy a new truck, and go on a cruise to Alaska with her girlfriend.
“I wasn’t sure if I could afford to go a week ago, but now I know I can it happen,” she says.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Husky gas station on Columbia Street in Kamloops.
