If you’ve got questions about the proposed Performing Arts Centre, you can ask away this Thursday.

Members of the Centre for the Arts Society will give an information session and welcome questions and feedback from the public at the Kamloops Centre for the Arts information meeting.

Kamloops residents are invited to a town hall-style meeting on Jan. 9 at Bible Truth Church, located at 1099 Fraser St. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the bible truth meeting room. The Sagebrush Community Association will be moderating during the question period.

The decision on whether to go ahead with the Performing Arts Centre will be put forward to voters on April 4, with the question: “Are you in favour of the City of Kamloops borrowing up to $45 million to construct a Kamloops Centre for the Arts?”

Last time this project was put forward, voters shut it down.

The Kamloops Centre for the Arts Society hopes to fundraise significantly to help lessen the amount of money the City would need to borrow for the project. They plan to use private and corporate donors as well as grants to help fund the construction.

It is expected the society will raise $25 million or more, while the City may borrow up to $40 million, depending on how fundraising efforts go.

The proposed project would be built on 4 Avenue and Seymour Street. If the referendum goes well, those involved in the project hope to see construction begin in 2021.

Ron Fawcett donated nearly $8 million to the project with his purchase of the Telus Annex building in the downtown area, and he wants to see the centre open and operational by 2023.
