Kamloops vehicle fire leads to firearms charges

A call to a vehicle on fire led to something much more dangerous Sunday evening, resulting in three firearms charges for a Kamloops man.

Kamloops RCMP was initially called to the fire on the 1600 block of Centennial Drive May 14, around 7:20 p.m., according to a news release.

It's not clear why the vehicle was burning, but police managed to track a suspect to Sun Rivers after initially responding to the Brocklehurst fire.

“Police were able to identify a suspect, establish his location on Talasa Way, and obtain important information for risk assessment,” spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the news release.

Police believed there were firearms in the apartment and called in the Southeast District Emergency Response Team. They evacuated the surrounding units before the suspect left the apartment and was arrested without incident, according to the news release.

Sam Jr. Archibald Capot Blanc-Acko, born in 1997, is facing six firearms charges after his arrest.

Police seized a .22 rifle, an 858 rifle and a shotgun, which he was prohibited from carrying.

The investigation into "other offences," including the vehicle fire, is ongoing, according to the news release.
