KAMLOOPS - B.C.’s Green Party leader Andrew Weaver will be in Kamloops this weekend for the party’s annual convention.

The convention will run from tomorrow, June 1 to Sunday, June 3 and will emphasize Benefit Corporations the party’s efforts to encourage businesses to use some of their profits for social and environmental benefits, according to a Green Party media release.

“Weaver will launch the convention with a keynote on the emerging economy as well as participate in a panel on Benefit Corporations,” the media release says.

According to the release, earlier this month Weaver introduced a bill to create a new class of incorporation for Benefits Corporations. It is the first opposition private member's bill to pass a second reading and could become the first to become law in October.

Green MLA Sonia Furstenau will deliver the main keynote address and talk about the need for proportional representation. The convention workshops are the party’s final efforts to finalize plans for the upcoming referendum campaign.

The convention will be held at the Campus Activity Centre at Thompson Rivers University.
