A suspicious vehicle reported in Kamloops led to an arrest and charges for a man ultimately found in Barriere.

Kamloops RCMP received a report Feb. 26, around 6 p.m., of a suspicious vehicle on Kootenay Way. Frontline officers from Kamloops’s rural detachment located the car on Hwy 5 and attempted to stop it unsuccessfully.

"A police officer with the RCMP’s Central Interior Traffic Services later observed the vehicle at a gas station in Barriere, and with the assistance of a Barriere RCMP frontline officer, the vehicle’s driver was detained, then arrested," Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a press release.

"A number of items were seized as part of the ongoing investigation, including a loaded semi-automatic rifle."

Cameron Jaykob Deakin-Robertson, 22, of Kamloops, faces five charges related to possessing a firearm, occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm was present, possessing stolen property, and driving while prohibited.

He was remanded in custody with a next court appearance scheduled for March 15.
