Kamloops senior scammed out of expensive necklace

KAMLOOPS - RCMP are searching for two suspects after a 93-year-old woman had her necklace stolen while she waited at a bus stop.

At the intersection of Columbia Street and 10 Avenue, a senior citizen wearing an expensive necklace was approached by a woman who exited out of a dark-coloured vehicle.

According to a media release sent out today, May 17, by Kamloops RCMP the woman who exited the vehicle was speaking in a foreign language and motioned a cheaper looking necklace towards the woman waiting at the bus stop.

“The senior told her that she did not want the necklace but the woman placed it on her anyway and while doing, she took the senior’s expensive necklace off of her,” Cpl. Jodie Shelkie says in the media release. “After the woman got the expensive necklace, she left the cheap necklace around the senior’s necklace and jumped back into the car.”

The only description given to police was that both the woman and the male driver had dark hair and dark complexions. There also appeared to be a child or small adult in the back seat of the car.

Kamloops RCMP says this type of theft is the only kind reported to police. The public is reminded to be firm, shout and grab the attention of others or call police, if this situation happens again.

For those who have information about the theft that took place at Columbia Street and 10 Avenue, they are asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
