Police are looking for an arsonist after a person was seen starting a blaze at a North Kamloops business Sunday morning.

The suspect was caught on surveillance footage around 6:50 a.m. yesterday, April 23, lighting a fire near a business in the 900 block of 8 Street, damaging a rear door and tires.

“Security footage obtained as part of the investigation shows a suspect on a green and yellow mountain bike with a blue blanket draped over it, wearing a grey hoodie, bluish pants, and a cast or bandage wrapped around their right forearm,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

The suspect is believed to be male and left southbound on 8 Street, RCMP said.

Police did not provide anymore information about the investigation nor whether they believe there's a connection to the other suspicious fires in the city this month.

Anyone who witnessed or has information about the suspect, video, or photos related to this ongoing investigation are asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-13849.

The suspect fled the business southbound on 8 Street on April 23, 2023.
