KAMLOOPS — RCMP are asking for assistance in locating a man who went missing after being swept away in the North Thompson River this morning.

Police say at around 6:30 a.m. today, May 3, three friends went swimming near Chestnut Avenue when one of men was swept away, according to a RCMP media release. His friends attempted to pull him back to shore but were unsuccessful.

Kamloops Fire Rescue responded to the call with their boat but have not located the missing 23-year-old man. Kamloops Search and Rescue volunteers were also deployed and RCMP have been using a drone to search river banks downstream from where the man went missing.

Police describe the man as South Asian. He was wearing a maroon and green striped sweater and jeans, not a red sweater as originally reported by RCMP.

If you see this man, contact the Kamloops RCMP detachment at 250-828-3000.
