Kamloops RCMP are reminding drivers of the consequences of impaired driving.

Over the weekend,  the Kamloops RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit conducted four check stops which resulted in six 90-day immediate roadside suspensions, three three-day immediate roadside suspensions and one provincial roadside suspension for drugs, according to a RCMP media release.

Police will be proactive throughout the holiday season conducting road checks to ensure roadways are safe from impaired drivers, the release says.

"The consequences of impaired driving are massive. You're risking your life and the lives of others. You can be criminally charged and the ripple effect on you and your family and friends can be huge," Kamloops RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says.

Police are reminding people to have a designated driver, take a taxi, use public transit or Operation red nose.

"If you plan to partake in substances that can make you impaired, leave your vehicle at home or have a plan."
