A pair of grassfires on Columbia Street yesterday afternoon have RCMP investigators asking for the public’s help.
Officers were called to a grassfire in the 300 block of Columbia Street in Kamloops at around 3:30 p.m. yesterday, Aug. 11, and 35 minutes later a second grassfire was reported on Columbia Street West, according to an RCMP media release.
Both fires were extinguished quickly by Kamloops firefighters.
RCMP say a suspect has been identified and the fires are being investigated.
Investigators are asking drivers in the area of Columbia Street and 3 Street, and Columbia Street West to Sahali Terrace, between 3 and 4:30 p.m. to check their dash cam video to see if there is anything that could help with the investigation.
“If you saw anything or captured video of anyone lighting a fire or behaving suspiciously, maybe leaving an area quickly, please let us know,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.
Call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2021-27842 if you have any information about this investigation and have not yet spoken with police.
