Kamloops RCMP catch bike theft suspect red-handed

FILE PHOTO

Kamloops RCMP helped return a stolen bike to store owners before they even realized it was missing.

On March 1 at 2 a.m., officers on patrol saw a vehicle speeding out of a commercial parking lot without headlights on, according to an RCMP media release.

When the officers pulled over the car, they noticed a bike with a price tag attached to the rack on the car. The sticker showed it came from the store the driver was seen speeding away from.

The officers requested to have another officer on scene, and found that the business had just been broken into. The owners of the store weren't even aware of the break-in. The driver was arrested and the bike was returned.

The B.C. Prosecution Service will determine what charges the driver will face.
