A Kamloops nurse has been suspended for three weeks for a series of mistakes she made while caring for patients.

According to a Dec. 13 B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives decision, Kamloops registered nurse Maria Schneider made a series of errors between May and December 2021.

The decision says the errors were in relation to "medication administration, documentation, patient assessment, management of (an) unstable patient, and effective communication within the healthcare team."

According to the decision, Schneider didn't follow proper procedure when reloading incorrect medication into an epidural pump. She also did not check blood sugar levels regularly and incorrectly gave medicine through a nebulizer.

Schneider stepped down while the nursing regulator investigated the case and is now considered to have served her suspension.

The nursing College also put restrictions on who she could work for as well as prohibiting her from working in specialty or high acuity areas, being the sole registered nurse on duty, not having a leadership role, working overtime, or supervising students or staff.

She will also have to complete courses on nursing ethics and critical thinking and will have her return to work supervised for 12 months.

The nursing regulator says it is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
