A Sicamous nurse has left the profession and cannot return for a year after failing to demonstrate basic knowledge of multiple procedures and being unprofessional in the workplace.
Joseph Michael Dupuis cancelled his registration after a number of issues were observed over a two-week period in March 2022, according to a notice from the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
He was cited for using unprofessional language in the workplace, failure to safely administer oral medications to a resident, failure to practice basic hand hygiene, failure to follow sterile technique during urinary catheter insertion, failure to demonstrate basic wound hygiene and knowledge and failure to acknowledge or remedy resident discomfort during wound care.
He agreed to not apply for registration again for one year, at which time he would be required meet competency standards, fitness and good character, the college ruled.
