Kamloops's longest running music festival, Music in the Park, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City, and the event's sponsor the B.C. Lottery Corporation, made the decision in accordance with guidance from the provincial health authorities regarding crowds and physical distancing, according to a City of Kamloops media release.

“Although summer in Kamloops will look different than past years, I know that our residents will continue to follow provincial directions and find safe ways to stay connected," Mayor Ken Christian said in the release.

BCLC interim president and CEO Greg Moore said the corporation has supported Music in the Park since day one, and it looks forward to celebrating again when the time is right.

"While the special community concerts of Music in the Park and Midsummer Music Jam are a summer staple in Kamloops, we are putting community health and safety first,” he said in the release.
