Kamloops mobile home blaze first seen in hedging; witnesses

A fire sent two to hospital last night, May 10, 2019 and damaged two mobile homes, as well as a vehicle.

KAMLOOPS — A fire in a Kamloops mobile home complex that sent two to hospital, has the neighbours shook up this morning.

Platoon Captain Jim Gorman was on scene last night, May 10, with Kamloops Fire Rescue personnel. Captain Wade Lindoff was available for comment, saying fire crews were called to the scene at about 8:15 p.m. shortly after three trucks caught fire outside city limits.

Two engines, an aerial unit and a rescue unit along with 14 firefighters rushed to the scene at Foothills Estates in Brocklehurst.

Capt. Lindoff says two were sent to hospital by ambulance with smoke inhalation; one of the victims suffered third degree burns.

Witnesses say the woman who was sent to hospital with burns had been sitting on her porch when she noticed a puff of smoke coming from the cedar hedges.

When she went to put it out with a garden hose she was injured by a sudden burst of flame, neighbours say.

Seen at the foot of the charred foliage is a marker indicated that a gas pipeline is situated below.

At this point there is no indication that the fire is suspicious in nature, but the cause is still unknown.

A gas line marker is seen below where the blaze took place.
