Two Kamloops MLAs are set to run for re-election representing the BC United Party, formerly the BC Liberal Party.

Todd Stone and Peter Milobar were each elected with the BC Liberals and will be on the next ballot for BC United, according to a party news release issued today, Oct. 10.

“It's an honour to represent Kamloops Centre and I'm eager to continue working for the betterment of our community and our province," Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Milobar said in the release.

Along with Stone and Milobar, Jackie Tegart of Fraser-Nicola and Lorne Doerkson of Cariboo-Chilcotin will also run for re-election.

“These incredible and accomplished candidates are committed to continuing their dedicated service to the people of British Columbia, upholding BC United’s vision and values, and tackling the critical issues that our province is facing,” party leader Kevin Falcon said in the release.

Milobar was elected in 2017 and again in 2020, but he and Stone will now swap seats as Milobar takes on the Kamloops Centre riding. Stone was first elected to the former Kamloops-South Thompson riding in 2013 and will run in the Kamloops-North Thompson riding during the next election.

Tegart has also been representing the Fraser-Nicola riding since 2013, while Doerksen was first elected in 2020.

“We are thrilled to have such an outstanding team of individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication throughout their careers. With their collective experience and expertise, I am fully confident in their ability to continue delivering results for British Columbians on the issues that matter most like affordability, health care, public safety, and tackling mental health and addictions issues," Falcon said.

The next general election in BC will be held on or before Oct. 19, 2024.
