A Kamloops man is out thousands of dollars after his tools were stolen from his work van following a car accident.

Kamloops resident Nick Reul was in a two-vehicle crash Nov. 2 on West Victoria Street. His van with all his equipment inside were towed away by a tow truck lot since it was undrivable, said his girlfriend Joni Reed.

He locked the van up and gave the key to an RCMP officer on scene but was unable to get to the Mario’s Towing yard on Carrier Street where his van was located until the next day since he was in the hospital, she said.

“As we were driving onto the yard, we could see the side door was open and then we pulled up behind the van we could see some of his materials were spilled onto the ground,” she said, adding they called the RCMP right away.

A general contractor and carpenter by trade who owns his own business, she said roughly $3,000 worth of tools were stolen sometime following the accident.

“Not only did he get in a car accident and doesn’t have his vehicle for work, now all his tools are gone,” Reed said.

Reed has started a GoFundMe to help him recoup costs. As of Sunday, Nov. 7, it has raised more than $1,000 out of its $4,500 goal.
