Kamloops man facing charges after 'very slow' attempt to flee police

Kamloops man tried to flee from police in a stolen truck.

A Kamloops man is in custody after a very slow attempt to flee from police in a suspected stolen truck last week.

Officers observed the truck travelling on Royal Avenue at speeds of approximately 10 to 20 km/h on Friday, Jan.14 around 3:05 a.m., according to an RCMP media release.

When several officers tried to stop the truck, it sideswiped a police vehicle before responders were able to box it in.

“After the truck was stopped, the driver allegedly fled on foot, fought with police and resisted arrest, before being taken into custody,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

The truck involved was later confirmed as reported stolen out of Kelowna and is part of a separate investigation, RCMP said.

Patrick Malcom Schryver, 26, of Kamloops is facing several charges in relation to the incident, for failing to stop for police, willfully obstructing a peace officer and failing to comply with a release order by being inside a motor vehicle without the registered owner present.

He was remanded in custody with a next court appearance scheduled for Jan. 27.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information related to this investigation, is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP and reference file 2022-1357.
