A man has been charged months after police began investigating an assault on a youth at a Kamloops park.

A video of the incident circulated on social media in April. It depicted two youths fighting at McArthur Island Park. A bystander can be heard out-of-frame, calling on them to stop, but he enters to kick one in the head.

Jake Johnson, born in 1997, was charged in September with assault causing bodily harm. He hasn't been scheduled for his first appearance yet and he isn't in custody, according to court records.

The assault he's accused of was on April 4. Police said a suspect was seen running from the nearby skate park before he kicked the 14-year-old victim in the face.

Kamloops RCMP released images of the suspect and a since-deleted video of the incident circulated on social media.

Along with the assault charge, Johnson is accused of breaching his probation, related to a previous assault in Penticton, on April 14. He hasn't been scheduled to appear in court for the breach charge either.
