A 35-year-old Kamloops man is in custody for the murder of his mother last year.

Kamloops RCMP arrested Brandon Jeremiah Dononvan without incident today, Sept. 13, and he's been charged with the second-degree murder of 57-year-old Jo-Anne Donovan, according to an RCMP news release.

She was last seen on March 13, 2023, and reported missing to police at the time. Her body was discovered somewhere near her Westsyde home nine days later.

Police have not revealed the cause of her death, but said previously an autopsy confirmed she had been murdered.

A year-and-a-half later, prosecutors approved a charge against Jeremiah Donovan.

"We are extremely pleased to have advanced this homicide investigation to the charge approval stage, which is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our (serious crimes unit) and support units," Supt. Jeff Pelly said in the news release. "Having these results in this length of time is admirable and exceptional given the number of other homicide and complex investigations they continue to advance concurrently."

Head of the serious crimes unit, Sgt. Nestor Baird, said his department had support from multiple units and support staff.

"They have worked diligently in gathering all available evidence, to submit a complete and thorough package for review and charge approval by the BC Prosecution Service, resulting in today’s arrest," Sgt. Baird said in the news release.
