Kamloops man among four dead in Ontario plane crash

A Kamloops man was one of four who died in a plane crash north of Thunder Bay, Ontario on the weekend.

Duncan Bailey, 37, died in the crash with three others, including a man wanted for a gang-related murder in Thailand.

Ontario Provincial Police Sioux Lookout detachment is investigating the crash near Kukukus Lake. The detachment started its investigation into the crash after the wreckage was found around 7:45 a.m., April 30.

Gene Karl Lahrkamp, 36, was one of two people wanted for the murder of Jimi Sandhu in Thailand. Sandhu was affiliated with gangs in B.C. and two Canadian suspects were identified by Thailand Royal Police after his death on Feb. 4, according to the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C.

Lahrkamp, of Kincardine, Ontario, and the other suspect, Matthew Dupre, are alleged to have fled to Canada after the murder, according to the B.C. gang enforcement unit. Dupre was arrested on Feb. 20 in Alberta and is awaiting extradition.

Bailey had ties to the Independent Soldiers gang and was involved in a plot to murder a man in Vancouver in 2020, according to the Vancouver Sun. He also faced charges in Kamloops and Alberta for separate drug-related offences.

Abhinav Handa of Richmond was a 26-year-old pilot who operating the privately owned aircraft, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

Handa and another person not yet named by Ontario police were the third and fourth victims in the plane crash.

Police don't yet know what caused the crash, but the Transportation Safety Board is investigating, according to the provincial police force.
