Dallas Stars right-shot centre forward and former Kamloops Blazers great Logan Stankoven was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes today, March 7, as the NHL trade deadline approaches.
In a massive deal, the Dallas Stars acquired Mikko Rantanen from the Hurricanes, while the Hurricanes get Stankoven and draft capital they can use to make another trade move, according to CBC Sports.
Stankoven, 22, played five seasons for the Kamloops Blazers before being drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2023.
Kamloops resident Ed LaPierre is a big supporter of Stankoven and was planning to see the young athlete at a game in Dallas against the Canucks on Sunday night as part of his NHL arena tour.
“If the trade goes through and he goes to Carolina I’ll hop by in April and go see him play there before the end of the season,” LaPierre said.
“I’m a Logan fan so it doesn’t matter to me what team he goes to.”
This season, Stankoven had 9 goals and 29 points in 59 games played with Dallas. He has played 83 NHL games, with a total of 15 goals 28 assists, and 43 points, according to Hockey Reference.
