The Kamloops Food Bank is set for the next six months due to the record number of food donations it received Saturday.
"Kamloops we knew you’d come through. Today a record has been broken… we collected 70,000 lbs of food," according to the food bank in its Facebook post. "Rotarians were moved to tears by the number of bags, and how full they were stuffed. We ran out of boxes before the end of the day. We have seven sea cans full of food."
The Rotary Food Drive is an annual event which has been ongoing in Kamloops since 2008, according to the food bank's website.
Food banks and non-profit organizations that help the most vulnerable across Canada say they need help to get through the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Non-profit organizations and charities say the impact from COVID-19 has been immediate and may also have ripple effects in the long-term.
Most food banks are volunteer driven, and most are seeing a dramatic drop in volunteers, as senior volunteers are staying home.
The Kamloops Food Bank was not immediately available for comment.
