Kamloops firefighter who died during lake dive saluted to for his 26 years of dedication

A Kamloops firefighter who died during a recreational dive in Okanagan Lake was returned home.

“With heavy hearts Kamloops Fire Rescue members gave Capt. Brian Lannon his ride home today. He was saluted to for his 26 years of dedication and professionalism, protecting the citizens of Kamloops,” according to a Facebook post from Kamloops Fire Rescue, June 10.

A Kamloops Fire Rescue photo shows members lined up in a salute beside a fire truck. Another post shared by the fire department also shows members lined up along a street for Lannon's send off.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue and RCMP divers searched for days after Lannon became separated from his diving partner and failed to surface during a recreational dive, May 15.

His body was eventually found south of the William R. Bennett, June 1, by a member of the public.

Lannon, 52, was a captain with Kamloops Fire Rescue, where he had served since 1994.

"Captain Lannon was known for his dedication and professionalism," according to a statement from the fire department. "He was a much-loved husband, son, brother, uncle and a cherished friend to many."
