KAMLOOPS — A wildfire that sparked earlier this afternoon west of Kamloops has been fully extinguished.

Kamloops Fire Rescue assistant chief Dan Sutherland says 33 firefighters from the city, B.C. Wildfire Service and the airport authority are currently in the mop-up stage after a fire was reported earlier today, June 19, near the Cinnamon Ridge Compost Facility.

Sutherland says crews are still on scene ensuring the fire is completely extinguished and no embers have been left burning.

The closest structure to the fire was a barn approximately half a kilometre east to where the fire started. Sutherland says crews quickly knocked down the eastern flank of the fire before it could pose any risk to the barn.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Smoke can be seen coming from an area near Cinnamon Ridge on June 19, 2019.
