A new film society is focusing on creating opportunities for Interior filmmakers.

The YKA Film Society is a non-profit created by a group of local filmmakers and spearheaded by the Boisclair family, to encourage the growth of the film industry in the region, according to the non-profit's news release.

“After filmmaking in the region for a few years, we have recognized the need for training and opportunity for filmmakers in the area. As a group, we decided to help facilitate by opening our own non-profit,” said Cjay Boisclair, owner and producer of Askem Productions, a Kamloops film production company.

YKA Film Society will work with various individuals and organizations to bring training into Kamloops to help the industry grow and be self-sustaining.

“The goal is to eventually have completely local crew, production offices, equipment vendors and more,” said Kayden Boisclair, owner and producer of Saint Clair Productions, in the release. “One day, our current efforts will be rewarded by Kamloops becoming a filming Mecca.”

The group just opened a new office that needs renovations and are looking for donations of building supplies like drywall, insulation, paint, studs, and skilled labour to bring the building up to working condition as well as items like office furniture and kitchen supplies.
