A popular fashion designer in Kamloops is heading to New York Fashion Week in September to showcase her latest clothing line.

It is the third time Delayne Dixon is taking her edgy wear and modelling team to the New York runway, but the experience never gets old.

“This is a significant event, it is what every designer works toward,” she said. “There will be around 1,500 people in attendance. New York is a main hub for fashion.”

It is the first show Dixon is attending after a two year COVID-19 hiatus.

She has been hard at work growing her business, called Delayne Dixon, and her cutting edge collection throughout this time, including designing new pieces and photographing her models around the city for her online store.

After six months of preparation, she said she is ready and excited to bring her new 18-piece fall collection to the runway.

“My brand is spicy with lots of faux leathers and faux furs,” she said. “I try to stick to a high fashion and luxury look. I absorb inspiration from everywhere and gravitate toward animal print and metallic fabrics.”

Dixon is taking eight models from Kamloops with her.

“Half of the models are trained professionals and half of them are good friends,” she said. “They are getting runway training to prepare for the event. The models are really excited, there will be a lot of cool people attending.”

Dixon became more known in the industry when her houndstooth tweed dress was worn by a celebrity on the red carpet at the Oscars earlier this year.

A reporter for Hollywood Critics Association, Rasha Goel, wore the black and gold number at the Academy Award ceremony on Mar. 27.

Dixon’s pieces have been featured in British Vogue and shown in Paris Fashion Week. She also sells her clothing with the retailer Wolf and Badger based in London.

She’s designed clothes for goth rocker Marilyn Manson and Canadian singer Serena Ryder.

Dixon recently launched a collection with SHEIN, one of the world’s fastest growing internet retailers.

“The collection is a creative, fashionable take on a country western look and showcases curvier women,” she said. “I had fun designing it.”

New York Fashion Week starts in Manhattan on September 10.
