Kamloops family had valuables and vehicle stolen while they slept

A family in Kamloops awoke on Saturday morning to find their North Shore home was broken into and their vehicle was stolen.

A suspect stole several valuable items, keys to a vehicle and ate food from the refrigerator before leaving the home on Sydney Avenue with the family vehicle, according to an RCMP release.

The homeowner called RCMP on June 12, around 6:30 a.m., to report the break in and added the suspect likely entered through an unlocked basement door while they slept.

Police say they began to actively the incident when they received reports of a suspicious vehicle on Beach Avenue around 1 p.m. the same day. They arrived to find two unconscious men in what turned out to be the stolen vehicle from the earlier break in.

Paramedics arrived to treat the two men as they appeared to have been using drugs and fallen asleep.

A 55-year-old Kamloops man, known to police, was arrested for possession of stolen property. He has been released with a future court date.

Anyone with further information related to this investigation can contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file numbers 2021-19497 or 2021-19520.
