Kamloops couple win $500,000 from a lottery ticket

Two Kamloops residents are $500,000 richer thanks to an Extra prize on a lottery ticket draw.

Couple Mark and Colleen Wihlidal discovered their big win from the Aug. 3 Lotto 6/49 as Mark was at home drinking a cup of coffee and checking the ticket on the BC Lotteries Corporation app.

“I drink a lot of coffee and I could feel the shock coming on,” Mark said. “It’s a good thing I was sitting down. Shock and coffee should not go together.”

Mark told his wife the news right away.

“I thought he was joking when he showed me the winning ticket,” Colleen said. “It’s so exciting and surreal.”

The Wihlidals plan to use their money for travelling, home improvement, retirement and toward their children.

The winning ticket was purchased from Safeway on Fortune Drive in Kamloops.
