A Thompson Rivers student is the first ever from the university to have been drafted in the Canadian Premier League.

An Instagram post from TRU Wolfpack congratulated Jan Pirretas Glasmacher on the draft. He was the third draft pick for U Sports draft in the first round for Canada’s major soccer league.

Originally from Barcelona, he is now one of four team captains on the Thompson Rivers University soccer team and has been picked to play for the Pacific Football Club in Victoria.

According to a post on the Canadian Premier League’s website, Pirretas Glasmacher was the first choice for the Victoria soccer team, and it was noted he is one of the best defenders they could have chosen.

Pirrettas Glasmacher is a third-year student who has pursed soccer seriously in various countries. When he attended Virginia Tech, he was unable to play due to his previous professional soccer experience in Europe, according to his biography.

Pirretas Glasmacher has a Spanish father and German mother, which allowed him to play for Germany’s national team for players under 16, the German U-16 National in 2014. He has also spent two years playing with the Blackburn Rovers U-18 team in England, as well as the under-16 team for U.D. Cornelia, a top tier team in Spain.
