KAMLOOPS - Apartment construction continues to lead the city's housing starts according to the latest survey from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Agency.
For the month of June in Kamloops, the city had a total of 1,060 units under construction with 670 of them being apartments, 214 were single units, 104 semi-detached units, and 72 being row units.
"It was another busy month for apartment starts in both Kamloops and Vernon as both cities are well ahead of 2017’s pace for new housing construction," says senior analyst Taylor Pardy, with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Agency.
The month of May also saw apartment construction drive the city's housing starts as well, with 648 apartments under construction.
The completed projects for last month were 24 single units, 12 semi-detached units, and one apartment.
For the year to date for 2018, there were a total of 387 housing starts compared to the 186 for 2017.
