The six least religious major cities in Canada are in B.C., including Kamloops and Kelowna.
New data from Statistic Canada shows how many people claimed no religious affiliation on the 2021 census. The data included Census Metropolitan Areas – the largest 42 population centres in the country.

Nanaimo topped that list at 62.9% saying they had no religion, followed by Victoria at 60.5% and Kamloops at 60.4%.
Kelowna came in fourth at 54.5%, ahead of Chilliwack (49.4%) and Vancouver (47.1%).
The only B.C. city to not make the top 10 list was Abbotsford-Mission, where only 37% said they did not have a religion. That was 22nd on the list.
The most religious centres were Saguenay, QC and St. John’s, NL, at 21.2%.
Nationally 34.6% said they had no religion, double the 16.5% in 2001.
The B.C average in 2021 was 52.1%.
Penticton and Vernon, which are not Census Metropolitan Areas, each came in at about 55% not being religious.
