Kamloops Airport continues to see positive growth in third quarter

KAMLOOPS - Despite smoky conditions throughout the month of August, traveller numbers at the Kamloops Airport for the third quarter of the year were up significantly compared to the same time last year.

The third quarter of 2018 saw 86,610 travellers at the Kamloops Airport which is a 22 per cent increase from 2017.

In a news release issued today, Oct.12, passenger numbers continue to show positive growth despite there being three days where wildfire smoke affected commercial flight operations at the local airport.

The release says the airport experienced the highest third quarter ever in Kamloops.

"As well as the best July, August and September on record exceeding the previous best third quarter of 2015 by eight per cent," Kamloops Airport managing director Heather McCarley says in the release.

The airport's growth can be attributed to the additional daily flights by WestJet from Kamloops to Calgary that began May 1 and Air Canada Rouge direct summer service to Toronto.
