Change is coming; and Kelowna residents and visitors are going to eat it up.
Kelowna’s Lake City Casino is opening its own Match Eatery and Public House, adding a whole new vibe to Kelowna’s lake front and the Casino.
The addition of Match, along with The Buffet, is something Kelowna’s Lake City Casino staff and patrons have been waiting to sink their teeth into.
“It’s a great thing for the staff. Many have been here a long time and they’ve seen Gateway’s growth and development in other locations and now it’s our turn,” says Lake City Casino Kelowna general manager Clarissa Pruden.
Opening its doors this month, the two eateries at Lake City Casino will offer exciting and tantalizing breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes, small plates, kids menu and appetizers along with favorite and new cocktails.
Mouthwatering, outside-the-box tastes such as baked bacon and cheese macaroni, fresh, unique salads and the fatty melt, a burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches, will have new patrons becoming regulars.
“It’s not traditional pub style fair. It’s got a twist - the Match twist,” says Pruden.
The restaurant will be located where the casino’s event room used to be. There will be a family friendly entrance off the parkade, so everyone is welcome.
“We’re really excited about this as it brings a whole new clientele to our facility. We’ll have the family friendly section, pool tables, entertainment area and big screens to enjoy. We’ve transformed our patio as well with new garage door openings,” explains Pruden.
The Buffet will be part of the casino and will offer an ever-changing menu and highlight cuisines from around the globe such as Mediterranean, Italian and others.
Pruden is especially looking forward to the two restaurants opening as people will no longer have to make the trek to other cities to enjoy Match and The Buffet during their afternoon or evening out. “These are our signature food and beverage brands that we have in the Penticton and Vernon locations, you’ll now find them here; without the drive.”
The planning of the two restaurants has been a huge undertaking. During the process, Pruden says they’ve recruited almost 70 new people to the team. “We’ll be just shy of 300 employees when this is all said and done. It’s great to be able to grow our team a little bit and offer new opportunities to the community.”
Part of that employee growth includes a new head chef, Ivan Abasi. “Ivan brings great excitement and experience and some great knowledge of the Okanagan culinary scene,” says Pruden. “It’s a win-win for our team because we have a really great opportunity to introduce the current staff to well-trained, experienced chefs and drive their excitement into creating some amazing cuisine.”
“Going from a cafeteria offering to our signature pub and eatery and being the first Western style buffet in Kelowna is really exciting, especially where we are; right downtown.”
Lake City Casino is open until 2 a.m., Monday to Thursday, and 3 a.m. weekends, with a soft opening scheduled for January and a grand opening event for the new restaurants planned in February.
