SILVER STAR - SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon has brought in independent consultants to investigate an avalanche yesterday that sent a man to hospital.

The unidentified man was airlifted to hospital following an avalanche yesterday, March 20, on one of the mountain's double black diamond runs in the Putnam Creek area.

Resort spokesperson Chantelle Deacon said in a media release that due to privacy concerns they will not be releasing any information regarding the injured skier.

Deacon said avalanche consultants, along with members of the resort's ski patrol will be conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, as well as assessing snow conditions on the mountain.

The Putnam Creek area of the resort is presently closed, as are some south and southwest facing runs east of the gondola, and including the Alpine Meadows chair, she said. The reopening of any terrain will be subject to the results of the investigation.

The resort still has seven of its 10 lifts open, with access to 46 ski runs.
