PENTICTON - The first phase of the Penticton Creek restoration is half finished.
Reconstruction of the showcase section of creek bed began August 4.
The initial project was designed to provide a demonstration to the public of what creek restoration looks like, as construction efforts worked to provide restored fish habitat, maintained flood protection and stabilization of the creek banks, according to a media release from the city.
The public can view the work being conducted from the Ellis Creek bridge.
Taxpayers are on the hook for over $100,000 in project cost overruns the city blames on the tight contract schedule and a local shortage of critical construction materials.
