Falkland, British Columbia was chosen as the starting point for Kaizen Paradigm – a production company from Kelowna that hopes to showcase more small towns in the Okanagan area.
Co-producers Alex Pavlovic and Ivan Gordenko sought to uncover the charm of small-town Falkland, learn about the history it’s still closely tied to, and experience its signature event – the Falkland Stampede.
After spending some time in the community, Gordenko noticed how much neighbours were willing to help each other out for free, and how chasing profits isn’t part of of the culture.
“They know that if they don’t help each other they will not grow as a city, they won’t improve,” he said.
It's a place where folks don't feel like they're part of the rat race.
“A lot of people leave the city because they want a more quiet, simpler life,” Pavlovic said.
Falkland, the documentary, is expected to be released on YouTube in the next two to three months. A trailer for the film was just released.
The duo plans on showcasing other communities in the Okanagan area, and they'll be pitching this pilot project to commercial networks in hopes of making it happen.
