For the first time, Tourism Revelstoke is highlighting the natural flora of its mountain community with a festival.

The Revelstoke Wildflower Festival will be held from Aug. 8-16 in celebration of the city’s alpine bloom.

“We have an incredible alpine wildflower display here in the summer so we thought it would be great to draw some attention to it and offer some activities surrounding it,” said Robyn Goldsmith, events coordinator with Tourism Revelstoke.

Planned pre-COVID-19, the tourism community is hoping the festival will attract visitors to the area.

The wildflowers are easy to find by bike, car and gondola, Goldsmith said.

“Revelstoke is a great wildflower destination and we’re maybe a little under the radar on that so we wanted to draw some attention to that,” she said.

The natural spaces makes it easy for festival goers to social distance, she said.

There will be wildflower walks, a photo contest and kids' art activities, she said.

In particular, everyone’s favourite flower is the common red paintbrush which can be found at the valley bottom to mountain top.

“It comes in all sorts of red and orange hues so that’s the star of the show,” she said.

The festival is free to attend. For  more information on the festival, visit Tourism Revelstoke’s website.
