iN VIDEO: Vernon man captures footage of prowling bobcat

A Vernon man captured footage of a bobcat that's been frequenting his property and gobbling up quail.

Matthew Little said he first spotted the bobcat around his Old Kamloops Road property about two weeks but only managed to capture it on video yesterday, Dec. 27.

Little posted the video to the local Facebook group Vernon & Area Community Forum. The video shows the bobcat wandering past Little's home in the afternoon.

"The first time I saw it it was just pulling out of the driveway and I spooked the quail and I saw them fluttering about and I saw the backend of the bobcat trotting away with (a) quail in its mouth," Little told iNFOnews.ca.

He's not sure if it's the same bobcat he keeps seeing or whether there are more living nearby.

Little said there used to be a bear that regularly visited the property but hasn't been around for a while, and a coyote's den has now also been abandoned. Little wonders if the bobcat or bobcats have started to appear since the other wildlife left.

"We love the quail because they're adorable... I see cats around and it would irk me to lose a quail to just a house cat but feeding a bobcat and having it around is kind of exciting," he said adding "It's fun."
