iN VIDEO: Turkeys air their festive grievances in Vernon driveway

It seems that not all turkeys were cooking in the oven on Christmas Day.

Vernon resident Jason Keis was given a show of two wild toms battling it out – probably for a female's attention – outside his house, Dec. 25.

"A lot of people don't realize we have wild turkeys in the Okanagan," Keis said.

The Eastside Road resident said he regularly sees 15 or so turkeys pass through his yard, but has never witnessed a display like the one he saw on Christmas Day.

He assumes their chest pumping was intended to attract the attention of a female.

Whether there was a clear winner or not isn't known, as Keis said the large birds were getting a little close to his car so he went outside and the birds quickly scampered away.

So was he tempted to head outside with a sharp knife and grab himself a Boxing Day meal?

"No," Keis said, adding that it's probably a lot of work.
