Kamloops RCMP blocked a residential street for nearly six hours after a report of gunshots on the North Shore.

Kamloops officers swarmed the area, followed by the heavily-armed Southeast District emergency response team, around 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20.

Police responded to a report of possible gunshots on the 100-block of Yew Street and had residents shelter in place once officers identified the home where they believed the gunshots originated, according to a news release.

Police also responded to a suspected shooting in the Dallas neighbourhood on Tuesday, around 10:30 p.m.

“Although the incidents are not presently believed to be related, based on the information available at the time and the risk assessment conducted, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment contacted additional support units... to help ensure the safety of all those involved, including the public," Insp. Jeff Pelley of Kamloops RCMP said in a news release.

Kamloops RCMP had three people in custody by 6:45 p.m., where they remain as of Thursday morning.

The majority of officers at the 100-block of Yew Street left the area by 9 p.m., according to a July 20 news release.

“The Kamloops RCMP Detachment realizes the inconvenience caused to the public during the police presence yesterday; we are thankful for their cooperation in helping to ensure a safe outcome for all of those in and around the area,” Pelley said.

Police did not confirm whether there was evidence of gunshots during the Yew Street stand-off, nor did the release confirm whether police are pursuing charges against the three people.
