Canada's Snowbirds honoured Capt. Jenn Casey with a special manoeuvre called "the missing man" this week.
To the tune of Grace, Too by The Tragically Hip, the planes flew abreast until a lone pilot pulled their jet up into the sky. The rest continued their flight, leaving a gap where the "missing man" once flew.
In the video, the narrator said the Snowbirds are dedicating their 2021 season to the memory of Capt. Casey.
"We love you, Jenn. We miss you. And you're forever in our hearts," he said.
They flew the formation in Comox on the first anniversary of the crash that killed Capt. Casey in Kamloops, May 17, 2020.
The City of Kamloops recently announced plans to honour Capt. Casey with a park and memorial near Fulton Field. Construction will start in 2023.
On May 17, 2020, a bird struck the plane, causing a compressor stall above the Brocklehurst neighbourhood during the Kamloops stop for Operation INSPIRATION. The plane crashed onto a Kamloops residential street and Capt. Casey was killed in the accident, while the pilot Capt. Richard MacDougall was injured but survived.
