RCMP are asking for the public's help to find the driver of a dirt bike that was seen driving recklessly in Revelstoke.

A Revelstoke RCMP officer was conducting patrols and observed an off-road motorcycle complete a U-turn on Williamson Lake Road in Revelstoke, July 13, at 8:43 p.m., according to an RCMP media release.

The police officer activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the motorcycle southbound on Airport Way but the motorcycle fled at a very high rate of speed into a nearby rural neighbourhood.

The police officer lost sight of the bike after it turned left onto Westerburg Road and continued to flee at a high speed.

Officers conducted a further investigation in the area of Catherwood Road to find the driver but couldn't locate them.

The rider of the newer model blue Yamaha YZF off-road motorcycle appeared to be a young man and police are looking for information from the public to help identify him.

“The actions of the rider to flee from the lawful traffic stop were extremely reckless and could have resulted in injury or worse to the rider or public in the area at the time,” Sgt. Chris Dodds, detachment commander for the Revelstoke RCMP, said in the press release.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Revelstoke RCMP at 250-837-5255 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
