Kamloops teenager Cameron Whitcomb is advancing up the ladder and has made it into the top 24 on American Idol.

Celebrating in front of the judges with what has become his signature backflip, Whitcomb has now advanced to the next round.

American Idol judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie asked Whitcomb if he had what it takes after he wowed audiences with a cover of Bob Dylan's song "It Ain't Me Babe."

"Absolutely, 100 per cent," Whitcomb replied.

Following the performance, Whitcomb did a backflip on stage.

Back in Kamloops, Whitcomb is a motorcycle mechanic and pipeline worker.

The 18-year-old has worked his way through the rounds performing "Rock, Salt and Nails" by Waylon Jennings and "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

American Idol airs on CityTV and ABC on Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m.
