The snow is falling and two ski resorts in the Thompson-Okanagan region are offering dog sledding adventures for anyone who wants to go dashing through the snow in a dog drawn winter sleigh.

Mountain Man Dog Sled Adventures at Sun Peaks Resort is opening Dec. 15 and co-owner Taryn Schwanke said the guides and the Alaskan huskies are excited.

“It's puking snow here right now,” Schwanke said. “We are super excited and the dogs are excited and everything is coming through solid.”

She said the company is also taking over snowmobiling tours at the ski resort and are looking forward to offering those opportunities as well.

When asked what guests can expect on a dog sled ride, Schwanke said “it’s unlike anything else.”

“It’s just a mind-blowing, unique and magical experience,” she said. “The dogs are passionate, they love to go, and there is nothing like riding through the forest with the snow coming down.”

The Bucket List dog sledding tour is Mountain Man's most popular tour. It is an hour long and described as a “romantic and peaceful journey through majestic lodgepole pine trees.”

Mountain Man Dog Sled Adventures is located at 1280 Alpine Road, Sun Peaks.

Sled dogs over at Big White Ski Resort are also getting ready to mush but the opening dates are snow dependent and currently uncertain.

Candle Creek Dog Sled Tours have been mushing through the resort’s backcountry for more than a decade.

According to the company's website, rides begin with an orientation introducing guests to the dogs, the sled and the process of harnessing before heading out on the trails. It is advised guests dress warmly and wear goggles to protect from flying snow.

To get to Candle Creek Kennels from the village centre take Lara’s gondola to Happy Valley, turn left and cross the bridge into the Adventure Park where you will see the dog sledding cabin next to the washroom cabin. To drive there, park in the Happy Valley Parking lot, walk towards the gondola and then continue across the bridge into the Adventure Park.
