Brendan Miller was driving on Highway 97 near Peachland this past weekend when his dash cam caught a single-vehicle crash that closed the highway Saturday afternoon.
The footage from a rear-facing camera — with over 6,000 views on YouTube — shows an SUV weaving in and out of traffic on a solid double yellow line on Saturday, Nov. 27.
The SUV misses a semi truck coming in the opposite direction, and then crosses the centre line, trying to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle, before losing control and crashing into the rock face on the side of the highway.
The SUV appears at around the 1:10 mark in the video.
A patrol officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 97 near Brent Road in Peachland when they observed an SUV travelling southbound over the speed limit, according to an RCMP media release.

After the crash, the driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by the officer. The driver is known to police and was taken to hospital for injuries that occurred in the collision.
The driver is now facing potential criminal charges for failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and prohibited driving.
