The B.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the driver involved in a Friday afternoon crash outside of Peachland that shut down Highway 97.
A patrol officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 97 near Brent Road in Peachland when they observed an SUV travelling southbound over the speed limit, according to an RCMP media release.
The driver was signalled to pull over and stop, but kept driving.
The officer followed the SUV before the driver lost control and crashed into the rock face beside the highway. After the crash, the driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by the officer.
The driver is known to police and was taken to hospital for injuries that occurred in the collision, RCMP said.
The investigation was referred to the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. for review.
On Nov. 29, the investigation office concluded that the injuries the driver sustained in the collision did not meet the threshold for further review, and will not be conducting an investigation, or commenting on the incident.
Highway patrol and West Kelowna RCMP will continue to investigate the incident and is aware of the dash cam footage circling on social media.
