Becky Mason was walking her young pup through a neighbourhood in Armstrong on a hot summer day when the pup got a welcome surprise from a kind neighbour.
A children’s pool full of water was set up in a front yard under a cardboard sign reading ‘Doggy swimming pool. Be brave. Jump in. Cool Off. Have fun.’”
Still attached to a long leash, the pup called Lewi wasted no time splashing in the pool which triggered a case of the zoomies.
“Lots of people leave water out for passing pups or even carry treats to share, but a mini dog pool for pups to cool off is next-level sweetness,” Mason said. “The fact that they put up a little sign too is just the cherry on top.”
Lewi is a six-month-old husky shepherd cross that loves water. Mason moved to Armstrong from the Lower Mainland earlier this year.
“He is a rescue from the Saskatchewan fires, we’ve had him two months and he is settling in well,” Mason said. “Walking him around Armstrong has been such a joy, everyone here is so welcoming.”
Mason took the dog paddleboarding for the first time this summer where she discovered Lewi’s love for the water, evident by his exuberant jumping in and out of the neighbour’s pool on Aug. 27.
“Being new to Armstrong this year, it’s these small, thoughtful touches that make us feel at home and remind us what a beautiful, caring community this is,” she said. “Strangers go out of their way to look after one another. It honestly makes my heart so full.”
