The company that employed the trucker who’s dangerous pass on Highway 5A was caught on video, has been identified.

Its fleet of 171 trucks have all had their safety certificates suspended as a result, according to a press release from B.C. Highway Patrol, which conducted an investigation into the dangerous pass along with the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement.

A video of the incident was widely shared and shows a semi driver passing another on a double-solid line while approaching a curve and then the crest of a hill. The stretch of Highway 5A was between Princeton and Highway 97C.

B.C. Highway Patrol said today, Dec. 14, the trucking company had its National Safety Code certificate suspended until its nationwide operations can be audited, which affects 171 trucks.

“During these unprecedented times, Highway 3 remains the vital link from the Lower Mainland to points east,” RCMP Chief Supt. Holly Turton said in the release.

“Thankfully, this situation won’t be forever and I urge all motorists to be patient and exercise caution so everyone can reach their destination safely this holiday season.”

Truckers should always exercise extreme caution on the province’s highways, B.C. Highway Patrol said, and reminds drivers not to sacrifice safety for speed.

Anybody involved in a collision during poor weather on a remote part of the highway may have to be patient while they wait for first responders to arrive, who will also be faced with challenging conditions.

B.C. Highway Patrol said the wait will seem like an eternity for anybody needing medical attention.
